Mischief and Mayhem was established in 2003 by English couple Michael and Fiona Ragg who both have a background in the UK trade. The name emerged after a long lunch and reflects their approach to winemaking and perhaps life in general! Initially they worked on a negociant basis, buying fruit, but they became a domaine in 2012 when they bought a small plot in Aloxe-Corton, conveniently in front of the winery they have renovated. After 15 years in the region they have built up a little-black-book of contacts and have long-term contracts with a number of growers. This gives them a say in the management of the vineyards, which they’re encouraging growers to farm organically. They keep yields low, hand pick all the grapes, and are as precise, delicate, and non- interventionalist as possible in the winery. The premise of the project is simple: they're aiming for precise, elegant wines. The whites are pure with a mineral edge. The reds reflect their village or vineyard sources, which particularly shine through in the single vineyard bottlings. If the wines have a hallmark on top of their precision and minerality it's their sheer drinkability.
