Producer

Chateau de la Terriere has stood facing Mont Brouilly in Cercie, in the heart of the Beaujoulais region, since the 15th century and is now one of the oldest estates in the region. The Chateau was originally owned by successive generations of nobles, but in 2003 it was taken over.

The winery has been carrying out important work since the take over, both in the cellar and in the vineyard. They cover 26.6 hectares and grow Gamay Noir and Pinot Noir grapes, on vines that are on average 50 years old, extending due south, on a hill of weathered and deep pink granite for the Brouillys and the Regnie, but for the Moulin-a-Vent they extend on granite soils that are rich in iron oxide and manganese, and for the Fleurie on sandy and well-draining soils.

The vines are managed sustainably, with the soils being worked mechanically and having only minimal interventions. Everything is carreid out as accurately and precisely as possible to enhance the expression of the terroirs whilst maintaining respect for the vines. They maintain a traditional approach, carrying our the harvest by hand into containers to ensure to not crush the grapes and to allow easier sorting of the fruit.

Clover seedlings are used on grassy plots to limit weeding and to restructure the soil and fix atmospheric nitrogen, and further to this 6 of their hectares are now being converted to organic farming.
