Tasting Note

Producer

Gernot and Heike Heinrich have never been afraid to innovate. After taking over Gernot’s family winery in 1985 Heinrich was one of the first producers in the region to branch out from making simple whites to produce high-quality reds, seeing the potential in local varietals like Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and St Laurent. They have vineyards on the Leithaberg and also on the other side of Lake Neusiedl where the gentle slopes of clay, silt, sand and gravel of the Pannonian Plain give a warmer microclimate. They are passionate about biodynamics because they feel it’s right for the planet but also that they can producer better wine with a more precise expression of vineyard and soils. They converted in 2006 and were one of the founding members of Respekt, a certifying body for biodynamic viticulture in Austria.
