The Foundry Grenache 2020 75cl

£16.95

Tasting Note

The Foundry Grenache Noir has a youthful deep ruby colour with good intensity on account of the low production per vine. On the nose there is a distinctive floral fleshy fruit quality intensified by black pepper, spice and a sanguine note. The palate is medium bodied with intense crushed dark fruit, peppery spiciness and an intricate fairy-dust like tannic structure. Persistant on the finish, this is delicious now and should improve and hold for up to 10 years.

Producer

Established in 2000, The Foundry is the brainchild of Meerlust cellar-master, Chris Williams, in partnership with his long-term buddy, James Reid. Owning no vineyards, The Foundry works closely with a handful of growers across the Cape to secure grapes from sites which are best suited to each of the varieties Chris works with. Until the 2019 vintage, all were vinified, matured and bottled at the Meerlust cellar in Stellenbosch where Chris had been Cellarmaster since 2004. Having resigned his position at the end of 2019, The Foundry has upped-sticks and relocated to Staart in the Voor Paardeberg, the farm owned by the Reid family.
