Egly-Ouriet
AMBONNAY, CHAMPAGNE, FRANCE
Robert Parker said of this champagne “Egly-Ouriet's Champagnes are so good that I have begun buying them to drink at home.”
This biodynamic producer has always focused on site specific wines rather than the multi site, blending of the higher volume producers. They use very little sugar and were one of only a few grower Champagnes to never use 'gadoux' (city rubbish!) as fertiliser!
Francis Egly is at the head of the company, and their hard work and obsessive attention to detail makes these wines some of the greatest. Owning vineyards in Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzenay and Vrigny (for Pinot Meunier) all are Grand Cru except the latter. You really have to try these wines if you love Champagne.
