From the most northern part of the country, the Melgaco area has a unique microclimate that Joao Antonio Cerdeira realised would be perfect for growing Alvarinho. He planted his first vines in 1974, and eight years later released the first wine. Growing the grapes organically, even the company's lower priced wines can be aged for numerous years and develop into a lovely honeyed style of wine. Luis Cerdeira, the grandson of Joao Antonio, now looks after the estate.
