Once upon a time there was a Johannesburg born man called John Seccombe who met a girl called Tasha when both of them were at university at Stellenbosch. He was studying computer science and maths, and in 2003 he moved to Oxford to work for a computer virus company. A move to Scotland saw him working at Oloroso and then he took the plunge and entered a winemaking course at Plumpton College.
When Tasha fell pregnant in 2008, they moved back to South Africa and John started working at Thelema, then Iona, and also every year in Alsace with Julien Schaal. The Thorne & Daughters project started in 2012, aiming to make wine out of the oldest and most interesting vines that the Cape has to offer.
