Jean Velut Lumiere et Craie NV Special Edition
Tasting Note: Bottled in 2013, as a perpetual reserve, then disgorged 8 years later in March 2021. Gorgeously generous nose full of brioche, honey, salted caramel and this brilliant fresh, chalky element which perfectly balances those two contrasting components. The wine has a Charles Heidsieck like element to it with this stunning buttery play and wonderful sweet elegance on the finish. This is so good!
Producer: There aren't many producers in the village of Montgueux and this is one of the very best. He works with 7.7 hectares of mostly Chardonnay creating a playful style of wine that flirts with oxidation. Their wines charm from the outset and their Lumiere et Craie is a fascinating wine made from reserve wines, (does not have a "base year"). Creamy, layered and complex.
