Bodega Benegas
LUJAN DE CUYO, MENDOZA, ARGENTINA
Frederico Benegas-Lynch has an interesting bunch of relatives. A cousin of Che Guevara, family connections in Bordeaux and the great-great grandson of Don Tiburcio Benegas, the man who brought the first French vines to Argentina, his forty hectare estate of old vines is making some of the best wines in the Lujan de Cuyo region of Mendoza.
Frederico, raised in a winery, moved to Buenos Aires, but his love for wine got the better of him and he returned to the Mendoza in 1999 and bought the old vineyard that was planted by his ancestor. A winery was bought a couple of years later, and the first harvest of the Benegas wines was in 2000.
