Forteto della Luja
PIEDMONT, ITALY
Owned by the Scaglione family, Forteto della Luja is one of the pioneers of modern winemaking in Piedmont, and this tiny hilltop estate makes some of the most exciting wines from the region.
Established in 1826, the family grew grapes to sell to winemakers right up to 1985 and only kept a small amount back for their own family wines. Their neighbour convinced them to make a sweet Moscato and that was the start of their own wine production which has gone from strength to strength. Concerned about the environment, they were the first Piemontese winery to us solar power and only use natural processes in the vineyards and all harvesting is done by people and horses!
