Jenkyn Place
HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND
Yorkshireman Simon Bladon decamped south with his wife Rebecca and moved to Jenkyn Place in Hampshire in 1997 and in 2004 started planting the Champagne varieties of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
Recruiting Irishman Dermot Sugrue to make the wine, he employed someone who not only was winemaker at Nyetimber but had worked in Champagne, Bordeaux and India!
The vineyard has perfect conditions for making sparkling wine now, but being just a degree or so lower than Champagne, the temperature will rise over the next decade or so and make it very similar to the (currently) most prestigious place for fizz.
