RIBERA DEL DUERO, SPAIN
German Blanco calls this project a 'Micro-winery'. I'm not certain what he means by that, but his plan was to make a wine in Ribera del Duero, out of Tinto del Pais (Tempranillo's local name) that isn't a big, oaky, extracted mess.
He is based at the village of La Aguilera with vineyards nearly a kilometre above sea level, and is reviving traditional practices as foot treading, and spontaneously fermented. Small production levels, super quality and very approachable, this is proper winemaking, from a person, not a boardroom at an easily affordable price - really it it what we are all about.
