Chateau Vitallis Pouilly Fuisse 1er Cru Les Perrieres 2021 75cl

£41.95

Tasting Note

Rounded, really lovely woody aromas with a good balance of lemon and then a whiff of mango. Quite tense upon opening, but with air it fleshes out to be a wonderful elegant wine.

This family-run wine estate was established in 1835 and is located at the foot of the iconic Rock of Solutré, proudly rooted in Burgundy, although the Chateau's roots can be traced back to having origins in the 13th century, when it was originally build as a home for the Lord of Fuissé, and is now one of the oldest buildings in this Burgundy village.

The name Vitallis was taken on by the Chateau when Monsieur Ange Henry Vitallis inherited the property from his parents at the start of the 19th century. This heritage still survives as the Dutron family, who are direct descendants, still live on the estate and continue to cultivate the vines.

Denis Dutron and his son, Maxime, are driven by their passion and pursuit of excellence to create unique and characterful wines that express their terroir. Now with 17 hectares of Chardonnay vines, the father-and-son team work to apply considered viticultural practices and unique savoir-faire to the making of their wines, to truly express the full range or aromas of the terroir.

They are careful to keep intervention to a minimum and use organic growing techniques which are adapted to suit the specific needs of the terroirs. Denis and Maxime were among the first wine growers in this region to grow grass between the rows of vines, to reduce erosion on the slopes and create a thriving microbial life, adding to the richness of the soils. They reduce the use of pesticides and rely increasingly on ploughing.
