Chitry-le-Fort is a small village located 12 km southwest of Chablis. Its marl- and limestone-rich Kimmeridgian soils closely resemble those of its famous neighbour, allowing the vineyards to produce taut, mineral-driven Chardonnay, Bourgogne Aligoté, and Pinot Noir. In 1993, the village was awarded the appellation Bourgogne Chitry for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In recent years, a warming climate has improved consistency, driving increased demand both domestically and abroad. Aurélie and Thibault Giraudon, a sister-and-brother team, lead this top domaine with a focus on crafting fresh, elegant wines that express Chitry’s unique character. Their 30 hectares are primarily dedicated to Bourgogne Chitry in both colors, along with an excellent Bourgogne Aligoté. Aging is exclusively in stainless steel, fermentations rely solely on natural yeasts, and all harvesting is done by hand. As prices for Côte d’Or wines continue to rise, Chitry offers a compelling alternative for those seeking pure, expressive Burgundy at a sensible price.
