The Davantures have been winemakers in the Cote Chalonnaise for four centuries and have been living in the village of Saint-Desert since the end of the 19th century.
This family wine adventures first began with grandparents, Louis and Marie Davanture, in around 1940, when they set up the 3-hectare estate in a qualitative approach, selecting noble grape varieties form the best Burgundian crus.
Following in their footsteps, father, Daniel, began his wine journey in the 1970s, planting vines and making new aquisitions, only to be joined in 1996 by Eric and Damien to create the "Groupement Agricole d'Exploitation en Commun des Murgers". The "murgers" in this name refer to the piles of stones which were formed by men to be able to grow their vines on difficult terrain. The piles of stones reveal calcareaous soil, which drains and heats up easily.
In their desire to diversify production, they moved to acquire vines in the Givry appellation at the end of the 1990s and then also in the Mercurey appellation in 2010.
In 2006, the youngest in the family, Xavier, moved in and joined production. Now the estate comprises 23 hectares spread over seven appellations.
In order to preserve the vineyard and environment, the company has been working to reduce the amount of inputs they use and have been practicing sustainable pest management since 1996. They have also been striving to maintain the biological diversity of the wine-growing ecosystem, which involves respecting the quality of the soil and planting hedges, trees and maintaining the hundred-year-old walls in the vineyards. These efforts were recognised in April 2020 when they received the High Environmental Value certification, which encourages they to implement even more virtuous practices to gain even more biodiversity in the vineyard.
