Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou
ST JULIEN, BORDEAUX
Named after the unique large stones found on the estate, Ducru Beaucaillou is currently owned by the Jean Eugene Borie company. This family firm, run by Mrs Borie and her children, Bruno-Eugene (CEO since 2003) and Sabine.
The original founder of the company Jean Eugene inherited 3 female lambs and the equivalent of 18,000 Euros but was dissatisfied with his families farming so he started up a small fabric business before moving quickly into the wine business.
The other thing is that this is my favourite Chateau in Bordeaux. I bought my first bottle, a 1995, when I started at Oddbins in 2001 and have been in love with it ever since. One day, I will visit it!
