MARGARET RIVER, AUSTRALIA
In the early 1960’s scientific research showed that the Margaret River had a fantastic climate for growing Bordelais varieties. Boyed on by the advise of agronomist John Gladstone, Dr Kevin and Diana Cullen planted a trial acre of vines at Wilyabrup in 1966.
Their success was so great that they eventually planted up their 18 acres of sheep farm with vines. While the Doctor continued to work in the medical profession Diana became Chief Winemaker as well as the first woman to wine a trophy in the Perth Royal Show. In 1983 her daughter Vanya joined her and became Managing Director in 1999.
