Le Grappin
BEAUNE, BURGUNDY, FRANCE
Andrew Nielsen is from Australia and found himself working in Burgundy when the idea cropped up to become a micronegociant. He was working for Simon Bize who had over 20 hectares in Savigny and thought 'why not do things differently'. Working with terroirs that are less fashionable and overlooked, identifying good growers and working with them, to produce outstanding wines.
Andrew's first vintage was 2011, and we managed to grab some of his wines and fell in love with them. Burgundy has been hit by bad weather in the past couple of years so grapes have become scarce and the price has gone up, but Nielsen manages to still produce exquisite wines even though mother nature throws all she has at him!
A unique label adorns his bottles, designed by Louise Despont, these are some of the finest wines being produced in Beaune. I'm so pleased that I managed to start selling these at the beginning because Nielsen will become one of the greats in Burgundy.
