Riposte by Tim Knappstein
ADELAIDE HILLS, AUSTRALIA
One of the legendary names of Australian wine making, Tim Knappstein started the Enterprise and Tim Knappstein Wines labels in 1969 and built these companies up over the next two decades. His personal reputation as a winemaker in Clare Valley became unquestionable during this period, but then in 1994 he severed all ties with the companies that bore his name.
Twelve years later, Tim created the 'Riposte' brand in response to the fact that he couldn't use his own name on his new wines. He wanted to create a small range of cool climate wines in the Adelaide Hills with his wife, Dale, and son Nick and to keep it as a family company, so the three of them do everything. By naming each wine after a type of sword, this is his counter thrust, or Riposte, to the big corporations that 'own' his name.
