I’m not trying to change the world, I’m just trying to make a few people a bit happier.
In the summer of 1984 my family was going through a tough time. My father was unemployed and we were struggling. There was one day that summer that sticks in my mind as is the only time in my life I remember seeing my father upset. It was because he knew my birthday was coming up and he didn’t know how he was going to afford a present for me, and even though I remember that entire summer fondly, that memory stays with me to this day.
Now children are tough little things. They are kind, compassionate and strangely understanding and with a short attention span! So when parents have problems providing things like presents, children can often say ‘it is alright, I don’t mind’ and then move onto something else, but their parents often suffer much more.
So in memory of my late father five years since we last shared a Christmas together, I'm launching this appeal.
On the 1st December, I will look at however much I’ve raised between now and then and give it to a local family or two to enable them to have a slightly better Christmas than they were expecting to have. I am not going to trot them out on social media to try and generate publicity, that is crass and cruel, so if you have any doubt that I’ll do this, please don’t donate anything.
But if you do trust me to do this, and you have my word I will, please consider donating a little to help a family or two have a slightly better Christmas than they were expecting.
Please donate anything that you can - you can use the easy £1, £5, £10 options below, or you can adjust the quantity on these items to donate whatever you wish.
